Nas ft 2pac and John Legend – Black President (2008)…about time.

I was waiting till some rapper took the quote about black presidents from 2pac-Changes and made a song about it to reflect modern times. If anyone was to do it, I’m glad it’s Nas – he’s done politically conscious songs before, and this is one of his better. It’s an awesome mix of a John Legend and 2pac chorus with Nas’ lyrics. I only hope radio stations start stepping up and give this song some spins in light of all the “lollipop/candy shop/sexy can i” type songs being overplayed lately.

Favorite parts:

Gotta do what we gotta do,
We aint got no governors coming through to help,
Anything we need, we gotta do for self,
New improved jfk on the way, it aint the 60s again,
Niggaz aint hippies again,
We aint falling for the same traps, standing on the balconies where they shot the king at,

Yea but on a positive side, i think Obama provides hope,
And challenges minds or all races and colours,
To erase hate, and try to love one another, so many political snakes,
We in need of a break, I’m thinking I can trust this brother,
But will he keep it way real, every innocent nigga in jail get shot up in the field?
When he wins will he really care still? I feel… (Chorus 2pac) although it seems heaven sent, we aint ready to have a black president
